Filipina-American Mayumi Urgino has been living in Buenos Aires since 2010, where she plays violin in tango orchestras all over the city, at times bicycling to four shows a night. And when she finishes playing, she's on the dance floor until the milongas close down at 5am. Although tango dancers revere the music of tango’s Golden Age, dancers often neglect to value contemporary tango musicians. Mayumi challenges the separation between musicians and dancers, reminding us that the impulse to make music and dance can come from within the same body.
